6.7.1 Riprap shall consist of reasonably well graded, hard and durable, <br /> angular rock. Excessively flat, slabby, or overly elongated pieces <br /> will not be acceptable. <br /> 6.7.2 Riprap shall be reclaimed from the existing embankment. If <br /> quantities of riprap from the existing embankment are insufficient, <br /> materials shall be obtained from approved local suppliers of riprap <br /> or from existing stockpiles on Cyprus Climax property. <br /> 6.7.3 The medium riprap size (1350) shall be as designated on the <br /> Drawings as ten-inch (10"). The minimum rock fragment size shall <br /> be one-inch 0"),and the maximum size shall be approximately 1.75 <br /> times the D50 size. The following table lists the riprap gradation <br /> limits. <br /> Riprap - 10-inch D50 Size <br /> Percent Passina by Weight <br /> Rock Size 10-inch <br /> 18-inch 70-100 <br /> 15-inch 50-70 <br /> 12-inch - <br /> 9-inch 35-50 <br /> 6-inch - <br /> 3-inch 2-10 <br /> 2-inch - <br /> 6.7.4 Minimum riprap thickness shall be 1.75 times the D60 rock size. <br /> 6.7.5 The rock shall have a solid specific gravity of at least 2.6, measured <br /> in accordance with ASTM C 127. <br /> 6.7.6 The rock shall have a weight loss of ten percent (10%)or less under <br /> the sodium sulfate soundness test ASTM C 88. <br /> 6.7.7 The rock shall have a weight loss of less than thirty-five percent <br /> (35%) when tested for resistance to abrasion in accordance with <br /> ASTM C 535. <br /> 6.7.8 The rock shall have a weight loss of five percent (5%) or less when <br /> tested for resistance to freeze-thaw in accordance with <br /> AASHTO T 103. <br /> SPEC.A- EARTHWORK <br /> PAGE 6 <br />
