October 2012
3.0 EVALUATION AND REPORTING
Attorney Work Product,
Confidential and Privileged
12
103- 81640A
3.1 Field Investigation Summary
Following the field program, a report summarizing the field investigation will be prepared. The report will
include discussion of the field activities performed and subsurface conditions encountered or inferred.
The borehole geologic logs, well installation logs, and water level measurements will be presented as
tables or attachments to the report. The geologic logs will include depths, elevations, descriptions of
subsurface materials (soil and rock) encountered, and depths to groundwater. At a minimum, figures
included in the report will show the well locations and an updated cross - section through the Site. Finally,
monitoring well permit applications will be filed with the Colorado Division of Water Resources.
3.2 Characterization Report
Holcim and Golder anticipate that water monitoring will be conducted in the new and existing monitoring
wells for four quarters following the new well construction. Following this monitoring period, an evaluation
will be performed of all information collected as part of this study and from the monitoring, and summarize
the results in a Characterization Report. This report is intended to address all DRMS issues /questions in
their June 25, 2012 letter and specifically evaluate whether the groundwater has been impacted by CKD
disposal. Supporting documentation from this study and from previous studies will be included in the
report.
If the evaluation suggests that CKD is impacting groundwater, the report will identify the list of potential
measures that should be considered to minimize or control these impacts. The identified measures may
include source control options and /or groundwater treatment.
Following review of the final Characterization Report by DRMS, it is anticipated that a meeting (or
conference call) will be scheduled with DRMS to discuss the results. If necessary, this meeting will also
be used to help determine which minimization or control measures will warrant further evaluation of
effectiveness for achieving full Release of Reclamation Liability. Any work related to the evaluation and
implementation of control measures will be performed separately from this characterization work.
\10 \81640\ 0400\ characterrzationpin_ fnl- 23octl2 \charactenzahonpin_fnl- 23octl2 docx
Golder
Associates
