TASK 6 SURFACE DRAINAGES: ROLLING DIPS
Rolling dips may be constructed on some roads. The purpose of these dips is to facilitate the
removal of water from the roads to the outslope before the water is concentrated by long flow
paths. The locations of these dips will be marked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER.
The rolling dips will be built to the following specifications and as shown on Figure 1 , unless
otherwise directed by the PROJECT MANAGER:
From the lowest point of the dip, excavation will proceed down the road for a distance of
twenty (20) feet, and up the road for a distance of approximately eighty (80) feet. The dip
shall be uniformly sloped toward the low point of the dip from each end of the dip. The low
point of the dip will generally be about two (2) feet below the elevation of the down gradient
lip of the rolling dip. There will be some variation in dimensions due to variations in road
grade. Five (5) cubic yards of riprap with an average diameter of eight (8) inches will be
dumped on the road outslope below the rolling dip outlet. An additional twenty two (22)
cubic yards of rip rap material with an average diameter of six (6) inches will be uniformly
placed at the bottom of each rolling dip parallel with the dip drainage pattern.
Rolling dips will be constructed on each of the following roads. The estimated number of
rolling dips and the estimated aggregate width of the rolling dips is tabulated below:
Location Number of Dios Width
Mine 1 Fan Road 4 140
Mine 2 Fan Road 1 35
Mine 2 Road 1 40
Coal Silo Road 1 55
Measurement and Payment
The rolling dips will be paid for per rolling dip installed for the unit price shown under Item 6
of the Bid Schedule. Payment for this task will be at prices established in Item 6 of the
Invitation and Bid Sheet per Rolling Dip installed. Such Payment shall be considered full
compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental
to the furnishing and placement of the Rolling Dips as directed and described in the
specifications. Payment will be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT
MANAGER. Payment for this task will be made only for the unit prices shown under Item 6
of the Bid Schedule.
22
