TASK 5 SURFACE DRAINAGE: CONTOUR FURROWS Contour furrows will be constructed as described in this Task. The purpose of the furrows is to contain surface water runoff in order to minimize sediment transport from each area until vegetation becomes established. The furrows will be constructed after backfilling, grading and ripping operations described in Task 4, Earth Work, are completed. The locations of the furrows will be staked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER prior to construction. The furrows will be constructed to the following specifications unless otherwise directed by the PROJECT MANAGER: The furrows will be triangular in shape. Each furrow will be a minimum of eighteen (18) inches deep as measured from the base of the furrow to its crest. Side slopes will be no steeper than 2H:1 V. See Cross Section 2, Generalized Cross Section of Furrows. The estimated number of furrows and the estimated aggregate length of the furrows by location are tabulated below: LOCATION NO. The Contour Furrows constructed at each location will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Payment for this task will be at prices established in Item 5 of the Invitation and Bid Sheet per lineal foot installed. Such Payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the furnishing and placement of the Contour Furrows as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be made only for the unit prices shown under Item 5 of the Bid schedule. 21
