locations, the road will be ripped, and graded as needed, so that water flows across the road
surface as sheet flow. In those sections of the roads where the gradient is steeper, some
excavation of material from the outside edge of the road and filling on the inside edge of the
road will be accomplished to encourage sheet-flow drainage. In steeper areas, rolling dips will
be constructed in order to channel water off of the roadway. Rolling dips will be constructed
and paid for under Task 6, Drainage Construction: Rolling Dips.
Road drainage culverts shall be decommissioned when located. The culverts will be excavated
and removed if shallow (three feet or less from ground surface to culvert), or pinched closed
if deeply buried. Both ends of the culverts left in place will be pinched closed.
Road Techniques
Grading and Ripping. Existing berms on the outside of the roads shall be eliminated. The
bermed material shall be removed to the inside edge of the roads. Material shall be placed
preferentially, so that any existing ditches or depressions are filled first. The roads shall be
graded so that the slope of the road is to the outside, rather than inside, portion of the roads.
Material removed during the grading operation shall be filled on the inside portion of the roads,
to facilitate drainage to the outside of the roads. The remaining road remnant shall be ripped
to a depth of eighteen (18) inches where soil depth allows. Approximately 1 ,825 feet of the
fan road will receive this treatment.
Ri in . In selected areas to be designated by the PROJECT MANAGER, portions of the road
will be ripped to a depth of eighteen (18) inches where soil depth is sufficient. Due to the
relatively flat running surface, no further earth work operations would be accomplished at
these locations. It is estimated that 675 feet of the road will receive this treatment.
Rolling Dips. Rolling dips will be constructed as described in Task 6 Surface Drainage. The
locations of the dips shall be marked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER. Upon
completion of the rolling dips, the road remnants will be ripped to a depth of eighteen 0 8)
inches as soil depth allows. Approximately 4 rolling dips will be constructed on the fan road.
Task 4c - Mine 1 Yard
An elevated bench area exists adjacent to the already partially-backfilled highwall near the
northern portion of the wall. Material will be pushed up from this bench to cover the debris
placed in this location during Task 2, Demolition. All debris placed in this location shall be
covered by a minimum of four (4) feet of earthen material during this portion of the project.
The excavated and filled slopes shall be uniform, and not exceed 2H:1 V upon completion of
this task. It is estimated that 150 feet of highwall will be filled to a height of eight (8) feet
above the elevation of the adjacent bench.
A berm measuring an estimated 4 feet tall by 8 feet wide by 300 feet long exists at the south
eastern portion of the Storage Yard Area. This berm will be pulled back onto the adjacent
bench and graded flat to eliminate depressions in this area, and to promote sheet flow of
surface water off the bench.
A berm estimated to be 3 feet tall by 5 feet wide by 150 feet in length exists near the
12
