i. Ventilation Shafts
There are three ventilation holes connecting to the mine workings as can be seen on
Figure Cl. Venthole #1 is also part of the secondary escape hoist and acts only as a
ventilation source incidentally. Venthole #2 is the location of the primary fan, while
venthole #3 is used for ventilation as needed. Each of the ventholes are 7 ft in
diameter, and are cased to the top of the mine entries.
An additional venthole will be required south of the portal as soon as the direction of
future mining is established. Cotter will inform the DRMS of the exact location of
this venthole, and may revise the affected area as needed.
The fan is powered by electricity from nearby power poles, and will have locked
breaker boxes at the power drop. The vent shafts have been located adjacent to
existing access roads. The surface disturbance area at the ventholes is estimated to be
400 ft The ventholes will be inspected periodically during operation by Cotter
personnel.
