accessed from the road surface. Other roads onsite will be relocated to facilitate
access to the lysimeter and construction of the sediment pond. The roads that provide
access to the Upper Mine Area will not be changed.
The mine portal and facilities will not be expanded for the amendment. The only
expansion will be that of the waste area.
h. Utilities
Electrical Power
The local power company will supply electricity to the site using the existing power
poles and lines. No additional power infrastructure is anticipated as being necessary
for the life of the mine.
Power for the site comes from an overhead line as shown on Figure C2. The power is
sent to the panel box near the new Small Pond, where it is buried at a power drop near
the primary ventilation shaft and hoist. Power enters the mine from a shielded cable
in the power drop borehole. Portable generators may be used at certain times when
line power is inaccessible. For secondary containment and security purposes, these
generators will be located within their respective trailers. Fuel tanks will be located
at the base of the generator, or as separate tanks contained within larger livestock
tanks being utilized for spill containment purposes.
Water /Sewer /Trash
Water for bathrooms, showers, and other general purpose uses will be provided to the
site by a contractor. An above ground water supply tank is installed near the office to
store this water. Cotter will supply bottled water for drinking purposes. A septic
system is in -place in accordance with state and local regulations.
The main building includes the maintenance shop, warehouse, mine offices, and dry
change facilities. It will be heated using propane. The propane tank is located near
the building. The water treatment building will be equipped with an electrical heater
for use during the colder months.
A permanent shower facility and office are currently onsite in the same building as
the shop and warehouse. This building is seen on Figure C2. It is a roughly 2900 sq.
ft. pre- fabricated building on a 6 inch concrete foundation slab.
Figure C2 shows all of the utilities presently onsite.
Any trash receptacles used to contain lunch room wastes will be stored inside the
shop to prevent access by wildlife. The trash will be picked up on a routine basis by a
service company and disposed of at an approved landfill. No landfills will be
constructed onsite. Scrap metal will be stored in a designated scrap area immediately
west of the portal. Used batteries and tires will be stored in the same area, and will be
picked up and recycled by vendors.
D -10
