Fuel and Oil Storage Areas
Diesel fuel and various oils for use in mobile equipment and generators will be
stored and used onsite. Secondary containment will be provided for all petroleum
products. In most cases, secondary tank containment will consist of the fuel or oil
tanks being placed in an oversized livestock water tank. All tanks containing fuel,
oils or other petroleum products will be inspected daily during normal operations.
Leaks will be promptly repaired and any spilled product or contaminated soils will
be placed in containers or designated storage areas for later sampling and disposal.
A Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan (designated as
Materials Containment Plan in Rule 8) for storing and using petroleum products is
not necessary for the site since the total aboveground storage of fuel is no greater
than 500 gallons. A single 500 -lon gal diesel fuel tank will used onsite, and located
immediately to the west of the portal area. It is in a lined fuel storage area which has
a 6 inch berm and a capacity to contain 110% of the total volume.
f. Maintenance Shops and Warehouse
The current surface facilities include a maintenance shop and warehouse (50 ft x 100
ft with 12 inch concrete foundation), a mine office and a shower /locker room (40 ft x
70 ft with 12 inch concrete foundation). Maintenance and warehousing facilities are
in -place onsite, and located to the southeast of the portal.
g. Mine Access Roads and Pads
A new access to the mine facilities and portal will be constructed as seen on Figure
C2. This road will have a maximum grade of 15 %, 40 ft minimum radii turns, 1 H:1 V
cut slopes, and 2111V fill slopes, and will be 20 ft wide. The cut and fill slopes of the
road will be seeded upon the completion of road construction. The monitoring well
will have an additional length of steel collar added to it so that it may continue to be
D -9
