Surface facilities removal had barely begun when winter <br /> snows shut down operations until spring of 1993. <br /> Most of the mine is inaccessible due to the fact that snow removal operations <br /> were not conducted above the twin adit rock tunnels. Pond 016 access was <br /> being maintained and the discharge was clear at approximtely 70 gpm. The <br /> pond embankment and water surfaces were all under cover of snow but no <br /> problems were noted. Pond 008 had been dredged recently in preparation for <br /> spring run-off. The discharge point was not accessible due to excessive snow <br /> accumulations. Pond 001 was discharging clear water at approximately 20 gpm. <br /> The pond embankments were covered with snow. The rest of the ponds were <br /> not inspected due to restricted access or excessive snow cover.... <br /> DMG Report of 6/14-18/93 <br /> Joint DMG/OSM Inspection <br /> On June 16 the separate groups went to the#3, 4 and 5 mines. All had to be <br /> accessed by foot due to snow slides or drifts blocking the access roads. <br /> No. 3 Mine. Salvage of facilities at the portal pad began last year but only 1 <br /> building has been demolished. The portal area of the#4 mine was also snow covered with the <br /> exception of a small area around the perimeter of the pad. <br /> No. 5 Mine.
