Most surface facilities have been removed. The metal frame of the lamphouse remains
and some sections of the conveyor tube. and the work remaining should be completed
fairly quickly, so that backfill/grading can begin as soon as work is completed at Mine
#3.
Mines #1 and #2.
Of seven portals, all but two have been sealed. The MSHA plan, approved June 23,
1993, which governs portal sealing, requires that the two remaining portals are to be
sealed last, simultaneously with the portals at the adit/rock tunnel.
Most surface facilities have been removed. Clean-up of scrap metal, coverage of trash,
etc. was done in in 1991. Further work on removal of surface facilities was done in
October of 1992, after underground operations had been completed.
Some fans have been removed. Transformers and other electrical equipment have
been removed.
Adit/Rock Tunnel
As indicated; the MSHA approved plan requires'that the rock tunnel be-sealed at the
-same tirrie.as=the main fan portals at Mine#1.1 This work will be completed, iri the next-
construction season.
Sediment Controls
Sediment control systems, including ditches and sediment ponds, had been installed
aproximately a decade ago for the portal bench areas. These remain in place and are
maintained. No additional sediment control systems have been identified as
necessary, and none are contemplated in the approved reclamation plan.
Second Season
May. 1993-October, 1993
These could not have been sealed during 1992 because they were required for ventilation and access
to the underground workings where crews were salvaging equipment, removing oil, etc.
The first motion for use of cash collateral, approved March 22, 1993,allowed expenditures of$50,000 for
portal sealing. The funds were derived from the sale of 160 acres of real estate, a transaction which•
occured in November, 1992.
The third cash collateral motion, which authorized additional funds to complete portal sealing, was
approved November 17, 1993.
Weather conditions limited access to portal areas from late October, 1992 through June, 1993; portals
have been inaccessible since late October, 1993.
Reclamation Activity- 1993
