MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES
P.O.Box 1298
Glenwood Springs, CO 81602
June 8, 1993
Anthony J. Waldron g1E. r5__
Reclamation Specialist jUN 11 1993
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman St.
Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Rip-rap material. Additional sources.
Dear Mr. Waldron:
In previous correspondence I requested approval by the Division for use by Mid-
Continent of debris flow found adjacent to Coal Creek, Porcupine Creek and Oilwell
Creek as a source of rip-rap material. You indicated that I should inquire of the Corps
of Engineers whether they had any objection. I did so, and they have responded,
indicating that no permit would be required so long as the work we perform to obtain
the material "would not involve a discharge of dredged or fill material below ordinary
high water." The correspondence is attached for your review.
The work to be performed would entail scooping up rock material and transporting it to
the area where it would be placed for sediment control. Equipment used would
probably be a front end loader, and possibly a dump truck. No deposit of material into
the stream, or the ordinary high water mark of the stream, would occur. The areas from
which material would be taken are outside of the normal high water point of the stream.
The Division previously approved (MR-34) a request that rip-rap material be obtained
from debris flow adjacent to Dutch Creek, and alongside Road D, at approximately Sta.
25+00.
My request to obtain materials from these additional sources is prompted by the
consideration that it is desirable to minimize the distances such material is to be hauled
as a means to increase efficiency and reduce cost; also, we will be making extensive
use of rip-rap for sediment control and additional sources are needed. These proposed
areas contain durable rock material which would be suitable for the purpose.
Yours truly,
Diane Delaney
