rMs. Candace Thompson
November 26 , 1986
Page - 3
Revegetation Cost - 1.5 ac. x $1, 375 = $2 ,062
Demolition of new lampho.use building: This 170 ' x 40 '
building consists of an 8" concrete pad with 8" cinderblock
walls and a wooden frame with metal cover roof.
Total volume of material to be pushed with a dozer
and deposited up against the rock tunnel highwall is 8 ,000
cu. ft. or 300 cu. yds. A D-8 dozer can accomplish this task
in 3 hours at a cost of $354 .
Total estimated reclamation cost for the . 9 acre
pad expansion is $9, 056 .
Next we will address each of the MLRD comments in
your October 9, 1986 letter in the order they appear in the
letter.
Glory Hole Bin Demolition.
As was pointed out in our June 30th calculations ,
these bins weren' t built and therefore would not require
demolition. To set the record straight, we have sent a
letter to MLRD requesting that the permit application for the
glory hole coal storage bins be withdrawn from further
consideration at this time. if they are to be built in the
future, a permit request will be re-submitted.
Conveyor Demolition.
We don' t understand the MLRD reasoning on this item.
You seem to have taken some inflated costs we calculated for
the steep conveyor systems at the mine portals and arrived at a
Mid-Continent cost of $10. 41 per linear foot. We allowed this
because those sections would be unusually difficult to demolish
and dispose of. Those figures should not apply to the
relatively level and accessable sections from the rock tunnel
to the preparation plant, around the preparation plant and to
the Sutey refuse pile. Your letter refers to Schmueser' s
calculations coming to $14 . 14 per foot. Reviewing Schmueser' s
calculations (July, 1984) he came up with a total cost for
the 5, 825 feet of conveyor system from the rock tunnel to
preparation plant to be $20, 307 . That figures to be $3 . 49
per foot - not $14 . 14 . Jim Herron then revised Schmueser' s
figures and came up with a total cost of $28 , 300 for 5 ,825
feet of conveyor system for a per foot cost of $4 . 86 . Also,
if you compute the cost of demolishing the same conveyor system
utilizing a B-8 demolition crew it works out as follows:
