Ms. Candace Thompson
*November 26 , 1986
Page - 2
accomplish at least 75% of their rated work capacity. In
some steep and restricted areas we have been calculating
their work capacity at 50% . In the tunnel, wash plant, and
Sutey disposal areas we are convinced that 75% of rated
capacity is a valid figure.
We will compute the cost of replacing the 700 cu.
yds. of topsoil that will be removed from the site and
stored at the tunnel refuse area topsoil pile. We will also
calculate the cost of demolishing the new lamphouse building
on the portal pad.
Our recalculations of the reclamation costs of the
tunnel pad expansion, based on the above considerations are
as follows :
Since MLRD is requiring that this fall material be
moved back to the portal areas to obtain a 100 ' buffer zone
from Dutch Creek, not all the fill needs to be removed. Our
calculations, based on the fill cross-sections , are that by
moving 2/3 of the fill material we can accomplsih the 100 '
buffer zone requirement and maintain a 2 to 1 slope grade.
Therefore, we would need to move 13 , 500 cu. yds . of fill an
average distance of 400 ' . According to the estimated dozer
production chart for an 8S dozer on page 42 of The Cater-
pillar Performance Handbook, a D-8 dozer can move 375 LCY/Hr
a distance of 400 feet. To account for a reasonable efficiency
correction factor of 75% we will reduce the 375 LCY/Hr to
280 LCY/Hr.
13 , 500 cu. yds
280 LCY/Hr 48 Hours
48 x 118 = $5 , 664 Grading cost
Replacing topsoil will require moving the 700 cu.
yds . that will be saved a distance of 600 feet from the rock
tunnel topsoil storage area. Utilizing a 966 D Loader, two
12 yard dump trucks and a D-8 dozer the job can be accomplished
as follows :
2 Trucks (240 CYH) , 700
240 = 3 Hrs , make it 4
4x2x44 = $352
Loader - 4 x 68 = $272
D-8 4 x 118 = $352
Total $976 . 00
