Transportation system within the permit area
(1) Introduction
The primary means of surface transportation
in Coal Basin is by motor vehicle over an extensive road system.
A paved public road extends approximately four miles from State
Highway 133 near the town of Redstone to the preparation plant
and service complex area in Coal Basin. About twelve miles of
graveled haul roads connect the preparation plant area with the
five mines . In addition, there are about ten miles of light use
roads in the areas above underground workings that are used
infrequently for maintenance of ventilation fans , exploration
activities and subsidence monitoring . Locations of the roads
described above are shown on the map at Exhibit II-B-5.
Belt conveyors are used extensively on the
surface and underground to convey coal and refuse. They are used
to move coal out of the mines to portal storage bins and within
the wash plant complex including from the plant to the refuse
disposal area.
S -
