(3) L . S . Wood Mine (#3) .
The L. S . Wood mine is a drift mine in the
Coal Basin seam located north of the Dutch Creek No . 1 Mine and
south of the Coal Basin Mine. Through 1985 the L. S . Wood Mine
had produced approximately 5, 000, 000 tons of clean coal .
The mine is developed with a six heading main
entry driven westerly downdip (120) from the outcrop . Production
entries are driven both northerly and southerly from the main
slopes . All of the production through 1978 was from room and
pillar operations done with continuous mining sections . In 1978
a longwall mining system was installed . Future plans are unknown
at this time and the mine is temporarily closed . The mine plans
are shown on Exhibit II-A-2.
(4) Bear Creek Mine (#4)
The Bear Creek Mine is a drift mine in the
Coal Basin seam located south of the Dutch Creek No . 1 Mine. The
Bear Creek Mine is developed by a six heading main drift driven
downdip (120) southwesterly from the outcrop. Through 1980 the
Bear Creek Mine had produced approximately 1, 000, 000 tons of
clean coal at which time it was temporarily closed . Future plans
are to connect the No . 4 and No . 1 mines for improved ventila-
tion. An hydraulic mining experimental section is proposed for
an area to the north, west area of the No. 1 and No . 4 mine
portals during the next five year permit period.
(5) Coal Basin Mine (#5) .
The Coal Basin Mine is a drift mine in the
R
a
