Wood (#3) Mine. Because of the very inaccessible nature of the
outcrop due to the high relief of the topography, principal
access to the Dutch Creek No . 2 Mine is via a cross measure rock
tunnel approximately 1, 200 ft. long . The mine office, lamp house
and material yard are located near the portal of the rock tunnel
as is the mine coal storage bin. These will be replaced when the
new rock tunnel project is completed . The current rock tunnel
serves as an important intake air course. Other intake air
courses and all of the mine ventilating fans are located along
the outcrop of the coal seam (See cross-sections at Exhibit II-
A-3) . Through 1985 the Dutch Creek No . 2 Mine has produced
approximately 3, 500, 000 tons of clean coal .
The Dutch Creek No . 2 Mine is developed to
the north and to the south of a six heading main slope entry
driven westerly from the coal outcrop. The main slopes of the
Dutch Creek No . 2 mine are more or less directly above the main
slopes of the Dutch Creek No . 1 Mine. Development and production
sections have been driven northerly and southerly from the main
drifts . When the panels are completed and the coal removed, the
gob areas will be sealed against the main drifts and other air
courses .
All mining in the Dutch Creek No. 2 mine
through 1982 was accomplished by continuous mining sections
utilizing a continuous miner, loading machine, and shuttle cars .
In 1982 a longwall system was installed and has been the primary
production system since that time.
cl
