Site Reclamation Activity
April 1997 - March 1998
Page 4
2) injection of alkaline material into the mine pool . Injection
was through an adit into a vent raise above the main ore pass.
This allowed distribution into the main water conduit of the
mine. This injection site was approved in TR-19 .
Planned activity for 1998 includes;
1) refilling to grade any subsidence of the Lake Emma backfill .
2) monitoring and maintenance of the planted areas.
3) alkaline injection into the mine pool if the project is
extended into the 1998 season.
TAILINGS POND No. 4 - Plate No. 3
During the 1997 reporting year no additional acreage was disturbed
and approximately 2 . 00 acres were added to the reclamation in-
progress category.
In SR-02 , a portion of the borrow area, former haul roads between
Pond No. 4 and Pond No. 2 , settling ponds below Pond No. 4 and
undisturbed areas were removed from the permit area and Sunnyside
was released from further reclamation responsibility.
Activity at this site consisted of;
1) usage of this site to contain material removed from the
American Tunnel water treatment settling ponds and mine waste
from the Consent Decree - Mine Remediation Projects. Material
from the Longfellow-Koehler project, Boulder Creek Tailings
Project, and Pride of the West Tailings Project were placed in
Tailings Pond No.4. This material was used to bring a portion
of the east side of the top to final sub-grade elevation.
Alkaline material was placed with this material to neutralize
it. Upon reaching final sub-grade elevation, the material was
capped with sub-soil from the near-by borrow area, amended
with dry fertilizer (40-10-50) and limestone at 2 tons per
acre, seeded with the "Mountain Mix" (mix included in Appendix
A) at a rate of 22 lbs per acre (pls) and mulched with grass
hay at a rate of 1 ton per acre. Seeding took place in
October.
2) contouring the borrow area above the relocated upland
diversion ditch, amending with dry fertilizer and limestone,
seeding with the "Mountain Mix" and mulching with grass hay
(same rates as above) .
