ameO
D) Overburden Fill Placement
Overburden fill material was delivered from CC &V Mine Operations throughout both day and night
shifts. An Ames CAT D -10 dozer was used to maintain the borrow area. A CAT 993 front -end
loader and a CAT 992 front -end loader was used to load overburden fill material into CAT 40 -ton
articulating and CAT 777 haul trucks.
Overburden fill was placed in the areas shown on Figure 1. A CAT 330 excavator and a CAT 312
excavator with a hammer attachments "broke up" oversize boulders before they were placed in
the fill. Overburden fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers, keying into existing
slopes when necessary. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when
necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the
entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique was applicable).
Subgrade temperatures were monitored by an AMEC field representative prior to fill placement.
Fill material was not placed until the entire fill area was at or above 32 °F. Fill temperatures were
then monitored every hour during ambient temperatures below 32 °F. No frozen material was
placed during the week.
E) Slope Contouring
Slope contouring was performed using a CAT 345 excavator. Material generated during slope
contouring was placed as overburden fill at the top of the slope.
F) Soil Liner Fill (SLF)
No work performed during the week.
G) Drain Cover Fill (DCF)
No work performed during the week.
Location
This Week
Cumulative
Comments
(tons)
(tons)
DCF Process
-
158,613
DCF processing is temporarily paused
Total
-
158,613
DCF processing is temporarily paused
H) Underdrain
Secondary underdrain installation was performed installing 12 oz /yd2 geotextile and a 2' lift of
Underdrain Filter Material (UFM) was then placed in the trench, "burrito wrapping" the UFM
material with the geotextile. A 6 -inch lift of select structural fill (SSF) was then placed over the
geotextile using a CAT 950 front -end loader. The SSF material was moisture conditioned and
compacted using a vibratory plate compactor. Approximately 450 linear feet of secondary
underdrain was completely installed. Overburden fill placement was then performed over the
underdrain. Underdrain construction was observed by an AMEC field representative and found to
be constructed in accordance with design drawings and project specifications. Underdrain
construction is complete for the Mill Site Earthworks project.
I) Miscellaneous
A CAT D -8 dozer and a Hitachi 350 excavator were used to construct access and pole locations
preparing relocate the power line within the Mill Site footprint.
MEW Weekly Report WE 03.17.2012
