The vegetation test plot on the excavated pond -nods was not
constructed as planned and mentioned in the last annual report.
The reasons for this are: (I ) the Division was not receptive to
the idea; and (2) the pond muds were removed to Tailings Pond
No. 3 ,
A new lime reagent feed system was gozcbased for the Terry
unoel . It was not installed because manufacturing delays caused
it to be received after snowfall and it could not be installed .
It is to be installed upon opening of the road in May I989 ,
The old waste dump mentioned in the last annual report and
A,zeodmeot 3 was removed and used to cover the toe of the Terry
Tunnel mine bench as stated in the plan .
Planned activities for I989 include installing the reagent feed
system as mentioned above, cleaning the settling ponds and
sealing Dnod No. 2 , and improving the pond bypass and decant
system to make pond cleaning operations less disruptive to water
treatment.
Sunnysidei k - Plate No. 2
open pit mining was conducted in Suuoyside Basin as covered in
Amendment 3 . The pits were on tne Washington Vein and the
Sunnyoide Vein. The scale of the pits was much smaller than
submitted in Amendment 3 because of actual conditions found at
the site versus the original plan . The topsoil stripped from the
pit areas was stockpiled and seeded . The overburden and waste
rook were stockpiled for later use in reclaiming the Lake Emma
nnle as approved in the Technical Revision addressing acid
mitigation plans for the temporary waste storage piles. The
waste rock stockpiles were treated with 2zoMac during October
1988 as per this same Technical Revision .
The zevegetatioo test plots in the lake sediments were
constructed as per the report and layout map submitted .
Evaluation of initial success has not been determined because of
snow cover.
During open pit mining on the 3000yside Vein, a raise was
encountered that was riot anticipated. The raise opens into a
large otoDe , so baokfilliog is not feaaible , rhe bole was
temporarily timbered over and fenced for safety. D Permanent
cover will be constructed to seal the hoIe . A Technical Revision
will address the propose,.-] construction before commenceoeot.
A surface subsidence occurred in toe water diversioo trench south
of the Lake Emma hole. An nodezqzoond atope exists in that
location approximately 200 feet unCergrouod. It is not normal
for piping or caving like what must have occurred to bap'pen at
this mine . The subsidence was filled and a half-culvert was
suspended over the site to keep the water from entering the
subsidence. After settling stops , tbe subsidence will be
peznoaoeotly repaired .
- 3 -
