Page 2
Information Response
1. Zero acres affected during 1984.
2. Zero acres reclaimed during 1984.
3. Lower ponds, just below active tailings pond No. 4, see map,
approximately 2.3 acres revegetated; upper ponds, adjacent to
office, approximately 0.75 acre revegetated.
4. Lower ponds planted with mix A in June 1981; upper ponds planted
with mix B in June 1982.
5. Both areas fertilized with 300 lbs of 20-0-0 per acre in
June 1984.
6. The appraisal of reclamation efforts at both of these areas may
be considered fair to good. Suspected problems may be attributed
to localized acidic soil conditions and southerly aspect. These
conditions may be alleviated by localized liming and increased
mulching respectively.
7. Zero acres affected during the coming year.
Site: Active Tail Pond No. 4
Reference map: Mill Tailings Pond and Office
Elevation: 9,365 ft to 9,460 ft
Ecosystem: Intermountain, Aspen
Aspect: Southeast
Affected Acreage: 39.47 acres
Disturbance Type: Major/Moderate
Comments: Acreages affected at this site are listed as having major and
moderate disturbance. The major disturbance resulted from the displacement
of native soil by tailings material. The moderate disturbance was produced
by excavation of native soil on site for use in constructing the impound-
ment starter dike, creating a barrow area with exposed subsoil and no
topsoil.
Information Response
1. Zero acres affected during 1984.
2. Zero acres reclaimed during 1984.
3. Zero acres in various stages of reclamation.
4. No vegetation planted.
5. Approximately 880 gallons of Coherex dust suppressant applied
to the outer face of the tailings impoundment embankment for
dust suppression.
6. No appraisal at this time.
7. Zero acres to be affected in the coming year.
Final comment: The only environmental activity at this site for the year
was the construction and placement of a seepage recycling pump and pipeline
at the ponding pool at the toe of the tailings impoundment. These seepage
waters are now being recycled into the tailings impoundment No. 4.
