112 Annual Report
Standard Metals Corporation
Permit No. M-77-378
Sunnyside Mine
April 23, 1985Ca., `
Site: American Tunnel Portal f$
Reference map: American Tunnel Portal Topographic
Elevation: 10,480 ft to 10,600 ft
Ecosystem: Subalpine, Spruce, fir
Aspect: West, Southwest
Affected Acreage: 11.5 acres
Disturbance Type: Moderate/Major
Comments: Disturbances occurring at this site include erected structures,
water impoundment operations, mine equipment, storage yards, barrow acres
from which impoundment dike material was obtained, and inactive mill
tailings site. Affected acreage is listed as having moderate to major
disturbance dependent on the extent of impact to native soils.
Information Response
1. Zero acres affected during 1984.
2. Zero acres reclaimed during 1984.
3. Barrow area, see map, approximately 0.75 acre revegetated.
4. Planted with mix B, see Table #1, planted June 1981.
5. Fertilized in June 1984 with, 300 lbs of 20-0-0 per acre.
6. The appraisal of the barrow area at the American Tunnel Portal
is good. This may indicate that other subsurface disturbances
at this site would have the same potential for similar revege-
tation in the future. Test plots utilizing similar seed mixes
and fertilizers are currently planned for the inactive tailings
pond and mine refuse dump this summer.
7. Zero acres to be affected in the coming year._
x
Site: Decant, Animas River and Office Settling Ponds
Reference map: Mill Tailings Pond and Office
Elevation: 9,340 ft to 9,420 ft
Ecosystem: Intermountain, Aspen
Aspect: Southeast
Affected Acreage: 15.7 acres
Disturbance Type: Moderate/Major
Comments: The disturbance primarily consists of a series of small impound-
ments constructed with earthen dikes for use as mill tailings deposition
sites on an interim basis while site preparation activities for the entire
tailings impoundment No. 4 were completed. Acreages affected at this site
are listed as having moderate to major disturbances resulting from limited
mill tailings deposition, water impoundment operations and temporary heavy
metals hydroxl sludge storage.
