Volunteer vegetation has stabilized the peat material located
below Tailings Pond No. 4 and no additional revegetation is planned.
In 1988 it is likely that tailings deposition will be shifted to
:ne upstream method which will require excavation of borrow material
from the glacial moraine to the northwest of the pond. This material
would be used to raise the embankment and provide a sound foundation
for subsequent raises . All pertinent details of such a plan will be
forwarded to the Division as a permit technical revision.
Tailings Pond No. 3 Area
A second six inch thick wall Driscopipe tailings pipeline was
installed from the Tailings Pond No . 3 pump house to Tailings Pond
No. 4 (Plate 3 ) . In this capacity
Tailings Pond No. 3 serves only as an emergency overflow basin.
Tailings Pond No. 3 will continue to receive muds excavated from
water treatment settling ponds in 1988 . No other disturbance or
reclamation is planned for the coming year.
Tailing Pond Nos . 1 and 2 Area
The solid waste disposal pit atop Tailings Pond No. 1 was
completed and covered (Plate 3) . A new cell will be excavated, and
-7-
