trials are attempted on salvaged topsoil stripped from the open pit
aromas during the summer of 1988 .
As described in Amendment No. 3 , two open pits in the Sunnyside
Darin will be started in 1988 . The Lake Emma glor;: hole will remain
ur__eclaimed, and it will be used as an ore pass tc the mine for
ha--lage to the Mayflower Mill . Upon completion o-f the open pit
project, the waste rock generated by the open pits will be used to
ba=kfill the open stopes .
Ta_ linas Pond No. 4 Area
Normal maintenance was conducted on the Tailin=s Fond No. 4
fa=•ilities ( Plate 3 ) . Drainage ditches above the .ailings ponds were
pr--L.ned of young aspen trees and other accumulated -vegetation, and
wa-er collecting in the pump back pond was periodically pumped to the
reservoir. A dust suppressant was sprayed on the pond outslope twice
du=-ing the summer of 1987 . Repeat spraying is required by the
current modified centerline raise method which adds new sands to the
po_d outslope each successive pour.
The embankment elevation had reached 9413 feet as of July 9, 1987
any several alternatives are being considered in order to extend the
li_e of the impoundment. Test drilling of the slimes and sands was
cc-ducted during October 1987 to investigate the feasibility of
raising the berm by the upstream method. If this alternative proves
ec=nomically and technically sound, a permit technical revision will
be submitted to the Division detailing the required land disturbance
an modifications to the reclamation plan which will be entailed.
