FILES SEARCH:
A files search was conducted with Beth Clark of the Colorado
Historical Society. Two cultural resource sites were located in
the immediate survey area. Both were located in Section 25,
T47N -R16W. One, 5MN 1258 was located in the sw /sw and the other,
5MN 1257 was located in the ne /sw of Section 25. Both were open
archeological sites assessed in the field as not eligible for the
National Register of Historic Places. Neither were located
within the drill site area.
FIELD WORK:
On September 21, 1984, David R. Evans conducted an intensive
cultural resource survey and surface evaluation of the drill
locations and new access road corridors shown on the enclosed
map. The drilling pad was examined by walking a spiral transect
starting at the location stake and expanding outward to cover 200
feet. The spiral transects passed 12 to 16 feet apart giving
maximum coverage of the areas detailed. The new access right of
way was walked with 4 parallel transects 25 feet apart giving
coverage of 100 feet (50 feet either side of the centerline)
Best advantage was taken of game trails, road cuts, cut banks,
animal burrows, saddles, passes, and areas of high visibility.
The proposed drill sites and access roads were clearly flagged
and the Director, Land & Reserve Development for Peabody Coal
Company.aecompanied the archeologist to identify the right of way
and drill pad locations.
Drill Pad Locations:
Drill Pad Township Range Section Location Access
P -1 47N 16W 25 se /nw /ne /nw 900ft
P -2 25 ne /sw /nw /nw 470ft
P -3 25 se /nw /se /nw 630ft
P - 25 sw /ne /sw /nw 935ft
P-5 25 c /ne /sw 100ft
P -6 25 c /nw /sw 535ft
P -7 25 nw /ne /se /sw 165ft-
P 25 c /sw 100ft
P -9 25 c /nw /sw /sw 340ft
P -10 46N 15W 6 nw /ne /nw /nw 100ft
P -11 6 c /nw /nw 1-200ft
