Mr. Astemborski
Page 13
August 2, 2012
12. Please confirm that the interior pit walls will be mined at a 1H: 1 V slope during the mining
operation.
13. The Mining Plan states there will be a fuel tank on site. Please specify the holding capacity of
the tank.
14. The Applicant has stated the mining operation will be inactive between December and March
or potentially longer based on weather conditions. Please be aware that if the mining
operation is inactive for 180 consecutive days or more, then the Operator will be required to
enter into temporary cessation pursuant to Rule 1.13.5. If the Operator anticipates there may
be periods of inactivity, due to weather conditions, that exceed 180 days, then the Operator
may include a statement in the permit application that the affected lands are to be used for
less than 180 days per year. In addition, the Operator would need to include information
which would otherwise be submitted in the Notice of Temporary Cessation. This information
would include the following:
a) The date of cessation.
b) The reasons for non production or cessation of the mining operation.
c) A plan for resumption of mining.
d) The measures to be taken to comply with reclamation requirements and /or other activities
related to the performance standards of section 3.1 while the mine is in temporary
cessation.
e) Demonstration that the existing Financial Warranty is adequate to cover the reclamation
liability.
Finally, the Operator would be required to report the following to the Board through the
Annual Report:
a) The condition of the operation at the time of cessation.
b) What specific measures will be implemented to comply with reclamation and
performance standards.
c) Plans for resumption of mining.
6.3.4 Exhibit D — Reclamation Plan
15. The Division requests the Applicant include a weed control plan. There may not currently be
any noxious weeds present onsite; however, it is likely they will be present once the site is
disturbed. The weed control plan should include the following:
a) A list of potential noxious weed species that may occur onsite.
b) A description of the various control measures that will be used such as mechanical,
chemical, or biological control.
c) A monitoring plan that describes how often the Operator will monitor the site for
noxious weeds and what will happen if noxious weeds are observed.
d) A post- treatment monitoring plan to determine control effectiveness.
