4) completion of site neutralization (with limestone and
quicklime kiln dust) .
5) completion of capping exposed tailings, amending with
limestone, fertilizing, seeding and mulching the
disturbed areas within the site.
6) rebuilding selected wetland areas with a mixture of
composted steer manure and gravel and seeding these
areas.
Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
Activity, on this project, in October consisted of completing
the dismantling of the system for the season.
The water pool pH, at the American Tunnel bulkhead, on October
13 , 1997 was 5.55 and the bulkhead pressure was 318 psi.
Sunnyside will continue to monitor these parameters.
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously throughout October. Due to Cement Creek flow
quantities, diverted flows for water treatment were controlled
throughout this period except for short time spans when Cement
Creek flow dropped below the quantity targeted for treatment
(ie. 1000-1100 G.P.M. ) . The treated flows for October ranged
from 868 G.P.M. to 1021 G.P.M.
Attached are results from flow and quality monitoring of;
Cement Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel
flow before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; dissolved metals analysis of
the AT-004 discharge; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) for September samples. The October
results were not received by the date of this report and will
be submitted with the October report.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) and the three
gaging stations (A-68, M-34 and C-48) on October 8, 1997.
These results are attached.
The provisional flow from the outside gage at A-72 for the
October 8, 1997 sample was 212 cfs which is in the
intermediate flow category (100 < Q < 300 cfs) .
The reported zinc values which are an average of the result
from two labs was 365 ug/l.
