August 1997 Monthly Report
Page 3
- Ransom Tunnel
This project was completed in July, 1997 and inspected by DMG
in August. According to the inspection report, DMG agrees that
this project was completed according to the Consent Decree
work plan and MLR standards.
- Longfellow - Koehler Mine Waste Project
Mobilization for this project occurred in late August.
Construction of the lined diversion ditches was started.
Planned activity for September consists of;
completion of the lined diversion ditches.
cleanup of scattered mine waste.
contouring of the Longfellow mine waste dump.
site neutralization.
capping of the Longfellow and Koehler waste dump areas.
Site monitoring samples were taken in August and will be
included with the September report.
Bench testing to provide design parameters for design of a
passive bio-treatment system for this site was still in
progress by month end with oversight by Golder Associates,
Inc. The system appears to work for treatment of the site
water. The main information to be obtained from additional
bench testing is information to predict the effective life
span of an installed system. Golder estimates this may
take until the end of October, 1997 .
- London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
that the work plan for this project requires implementation.
- Pride of the West Tailings
This project was active throughout the month of August. By
August 31, a total of 79, 315 cubic yards had been moved at the
site and final slope construction was under way.
Reconstruction of the slopes for stability consisted of
excavating silty clay material to a 2 : 1 slope, installing
chimney (slope) and blanket (base) drains, and reconstructing
the slope to 4 : 1 .
Through August 31, a total of 511. 2 tons of alkaline material
(quicklime kiln dust) was purchased to add to the excavated
tailings upon placement in the on-site tailings pond or
Sunnyside ' s Tailings Pond #4 .
