• j
June 1997 Monthly Report
Page 3
Planned activity for July is the completion of contact
grouting, valve closure, pipe grouting, demobilization with
permanent portal closure and reclamation.
Progress pictures of the bulkhead are included with this
report.
Longfellow - Koehler Mine Waste Project
No on-site remediation work was done at this site in June. By
month-end, snow-cover across the site was starting to clear.
Site monitoring samples were taken on June 2, 1997 but results
had not been received by the date of this report. They will
be submitted with the July report.
Bio-mass feasibility bench testing continued throughout the
month. No results from the bench testing have been received
although discharge water from the test columns has been sent
out for analysis.
Planned activity for July consists of additional site
monitoring and collection of additional water from the Koehler
and Longfellow portals for continuation of the bio-mass bench
tests.
Progress pictures of the site taken in June are included with
this report.
London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
that the work plan for this project requires implementation.
Pride of the West Tailings
This project was active throughout the month of June. A total
of 23, 892 cubic yards were excavated and hauled to the on-site
tailings pond (18,467 cubic yards) or to Sunnyside's Tailings
Pond No. 4 (5425 cubic yards) . A total of 107. 5 tons of
alkaline material (quick-lime kiln dust) was received to add
to the excavated tailings upon placement in the on-site
tailings pond and Tailings Pond #4 .
A geotechnical firm (Western Technologies) was retained to
perform a stability analysis and slope recommendations for the
embankments to be left upon project completion. This study
was undertaken because of site conditions discovered after
mobilization. A recommendation report is expected in July.
Site progress pictures are included with this report.
