CRDA -01 through 03, and O1A; and thirty piezometers (Pz 100 -107, 200 -206, 300 -307, and
400 -406), all on CRDA -1, monitored quarterly for water level. "Critical levels" defined for 100,
200, 300, and 400 series piezometers.
CRDA -04 through 06 installed on CRDA -2, monitored quarterly for water level.
Unit Train Loadout Piezometers
Quarterly water level monitoring UTL- 01,02,03,04;
Annual water quality monitoring UTL -02 and UTL -04 (parameters listed in Permit Table 18-3);
Monitoring of UTL -01, 02, 03 & 04 Piezometers was discontinued in April 2011 with the
approval of SL -7 and they were abandoned and reclaimed in May 2011.
Roadside South Portal Workings
Well N -1, located at reclaimed North Decline; quarterly water level monitoring.
Rollins Sandstone Wells
Rollins -2 (At UTL)
Rollins -3 (Near Pond 7, North Decline)
The Rollins Sandstone wells were installed in the summer of 1997 in large part to address
questions raised by the Division in the 1995 mid -term review and review of PR -02, regarding the
hydrologic characteristics of the Rollins Sandstone within the permit area. Quarterly water
levels and Annual water quality analyses (Table 18 -3) required for Rollins Wells. Monitoring of
in -mine wells (Rollins -1 and Rollins -4) has been discontinued because the portals have been
sealed and the wells are therefore no longer accessible. Monitoring of Rollins -2 and Rollins -3
wells was discontinued with the approval of SL -7 in April 2011 and they were abandoned and
reclaimed in May 2011.
The Roadside Mines are required to submit to the Division an Annual Hydrologic Report that
provides information on the water quantity and quality for both the surface and groundwaters in
the permitted area. In addition, quarterly NPDES reports are submitted to the Division and the
Department of Health to comply with the current laws governing point sources. In the event of
an effluent discharge that is not within compliance parameters, a written notice will be forwarded
to the Division and the Department of Health.
Groundwater monitoring wells are located in both the Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek
basins. GWMS 02a and 02b are upstream on Cottonwood Creek, GWMS 03a and 03b are
upstream on Rapid Creek, while GWMS 01a and Olb are downstream on Rapid Creek
(downstream from the confluence with Cottonwood Creek). These wells have been placed to
monitor surface subsidence impacts on creek flows in the southern permit area; therefore, water
level is the only parameter measured.
CRDA -1 and CRDA -2 piezometers are monitored for water levels on a quarterly basis (thirty -
four on CRDA -1 and three on CRDA -2). The thirty, 100 through 400 series piezometers on
CRDA -1 were installed in 1994 at four locations to monitor water levels in multiple zones within
Permit Revision No. 5 26 July 10, 2012
