r f
March, 1997 Monthly/1st Quarter Report
Page 3
- Longfellow - Koehler Cont
Samples were taken from accessible site flows in March. These
sample results are attached. The flow from the Koehler portal
has ranged from 7 GPM to 16 GPM since the portal was opened in
July, 1996 and flow could be quantified.
Zinc loading appears to be relatively constant over this flow
range from this source. After spring flows are observed,
Sunnyside will have a year of site monitoring data to evaluate
and use for site remediation design plans.
Progress pictures taken in February and March, 1997 are
attached to this report.
London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
that the work plan for this project requires implementation.
Pride of the West Tailings
As of the end of March, 1997, work had not started on this
project. During March, the Section 404 permit was received to
implement this project and access agreements with bordering
landowners were obtained.
The Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) issued an
authorization letter, at Sunnyside's and the operator's
request, with conditions for deposition of the tailings to be
removed into the onsite permitted tailings pond (File No. M-
84-049) or to Sunnyside's Tailings Pond No. 4 (File No, M-77-
378) . It is probable that at least a portion of the tailings
will be transported to Tailings Pond No. 4 (the work plan
alternate site) due to the limitations under which the
material can be consolidated into the onsite tailings pond.
Progress pictures were not taken of this site during the
quarter.
Sunnyside has scheduled this site for work plan implementation
during the second quarter of 1997 pending progress at other
sites and site conditions.
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
During the month of March and throughout the 1st Quarter, this
project has been inactive with no alkaline material or water
being injected.
The water pool pH at the American Tunnel bulkhead on March 31,
1997 was 4 . 20 and the bulkhead pressure was 252 psi. Sunnyside
will continue to monitor these parameters.
