Mr. J it Herron
January 26, 1983
Page 2
3. b. (continued)
froam 12" to 18". This, multiplied by the areas, is as follows:
2-yr = 4 acres x 1.5' = 9680, cu. yds.
5-yr = 5 acres x 1.5' = 12,100. cu. yds.
The topsoil storage area adjacent to the No. 4 mine truck-haul
road will hold approximately 15,000 cu. yds. The access road and
the two-year pile topsoil will be stored there. (See Sheet 4.)
The five-year pile topsoil will be combined in this storage area
(see Sheet 5) for a total of approximately 24,000 cu. yds.
c. Revegetation Plan. When the 2-year pile is completed, the S.W.
top section (2 acres) adjacent to the road will be topsoiled
(12" to 18") and planted with the 10,0001 seed mix (enclosed
subject to review by MLRD); approximately one ton of hay mulch
will be used per acre. The seed will be broadcast and the mulch
applied by hand in the fall (October), following completion of
the pile.
d. Time Table. The 5-year pile will overlay the base of the 2-year
pile and the life-of-mine pile will overlay the 5-year pile
(basically in five-year increments) . When the top section of the
pile is completed (adjacent to No. 4 Mine road, estimated at 10
years) it will be revegetated following the same procedure as the
2-year pile.
This sequence will continue: as five acres are added, five acres
will be reclaimed, leaving at no time more than ten acres of waste
exposed.
e. Revegetation Success Criteria. As per MLRD letter from Jim Herron
dated October 12, 1982, "the Division suggests that the woody plant
density standards be set at 100 trees/acre and 500 shrubs per acre
for each of the three major vegetation types.
The herbaceous cover and production standards would then be the
amount measured in the surrounding vegetation types."
This will be the revegetation success standard for the new refuse
pile.
4. LEGAL RIGHT TO ENTER
The USFS has completed its special use permit for the area and it will
be forthcoming shortly (due 2/l/83) .
