culvert shall be crushed flat within the excavated trench. The
trenches which result from the extraction process shall be
backfilled to the original ground surface elevation. The backfill
will be compacted in one foot (11 ) lifts. Note that in many
locations, new hydrologic controls will be constructed in the
location previously occupied by the culvert. In those locations
where a rolled dip will be constructed at the location of a
previously existing culvert, it may not be necessary to backfill
the trench to the original ground surface elevation. Refer to Map
4, Hydrologic Structures. The ground surface at the outlet end of
the culverts shall be excavated four feet (41 ) into the road
embankment. The culvert shall be cut at the ground surface after
excavation, and the end of the culvert will be crushed flat. The
excavation shall be refilled and compacted in one foot (11 ) lifts.
Any additional culvert materials or scrap encountered shall be
collected and transported to the main facilities area for disposal
by others.
Removal. Culverts may be excavated and removed from the site at
CONTRACTORS expense. If CONTRACTOR elects to completely remove
culverts, the entire length of the culvert excavation must be
refilled to original road surface elevation and compacted as
described above (decommissioning) . Extracted culverts may not be
stockpiled in locations other than in the vicinity of the Road
project. All extracted culverts must be removed from the mine site
prior to initiating revegetation efforts.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment for culvert removal and
decommissioning operations, including regrading of excavations,
necessary to accomplish Task 2. Payment for these portions of Task
2 will be reflected in a lump sum bid under Item 2 on the Bid
Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for culvert
excavation and crushing, filling of excavated areas, and removal of
culvert remnants. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 3 ROAD GRADING
Map 3 , Road Project Map, depicts the location of the road subject
to reclamation during performance of this project. Execution of
Task 3 will result in grading of road surfaces to achieve the road
surface reclamation design specifications and elimination of the
drainage ditch network. The drainage ditches are located along the
inside portion of the roadway. Berms may be located along the
outside edge of some portions of the roadway.
Any trash or debris, including any which may be encountered in the
vicinity of the project areas during completion of this Project,
shall be removed to the main facilities area by CONTRACTOR for
disposal by others. Additionally, it is possible that old,
9
