abandoned culverts may be encountered during performance of this
Project. Any such materials shall be completely excavated and
removed by CONTRACTOR to the main facilities area for disposal by
others.
A single or double ditch is located on the inside portion of most
portions of the road. These ditches carried water to the culverts
which were eliminated in Task 2, Culvert Removal. In some
locations, a berm is also present at the outside margin of the
road. These berms will be eliminated during Task 3 , Road Grading.
Cross Sections D-1 through D-18 depict the slope of the roads. The
slope is defined as the angle of the road as measured perpendicular
to the road running surface. The location of each cross section is
depicted on Map 5, Earth Work.
The gradient (rise or fall) of the road measured parallel to the
road running surface was determined at each cross section point.
The average road gradient as measured in the field at each cross
section location is noted on each of the cross sections D-1 through
D-18.
Road grading will be accomplished in this task by accomplishing the
appropriate reclamation specification, as follows:
Any road segment whose gradient (rise or fall) exceeds five percent
(5%) shall be graded so that the inside ditch(es) are eliminated,
and so that upon completion of grading, the slope of the road
(angle of the road measured perpendicular to the road running
surface; see cross sections) is a minimum of two percent (2%) to
the outside margin of the road.
Any road segment whose gradient (rise or fall) is five percent (5%)
or less shall be graded so that the inside ditch(es) are
eliminated, and so that upon completion of grading, the slope of
the road (angle of the road measured perpendicular to the road
running surface; see cross sections) is a minimum of five percent
(5%) toward the outside of the road.
Map 5, Earth Work, depicts the portions of the road network which
will either be graded to a flat slope or be graded toward the
outside.
Material to complete the road grading and ditch elimination work
shall be obtained from the crown of the road and from the outside
edge of the road. Material will not be obtained from the cut slope
(inside margin) of the road. Where material is excavated from the
outside edge of the road, no cut slope shall exceed 3H:1V. All
cuts shall be uniformly excavated so that the down slope extent of
excavation is relatively uniform in elevation. The beginning and
end of all cut areas shall be graded to blend with adjacent
unexcavated slopes. Sharp breaks in gradient between the road
10
