Measurement and Payment
T:sere will be no measurement for payment for ditch and berm elimination, grading, and ripping.
Payment for these portions of Task 3 will be reflected in a lump sum bid under Item 3 on the Bid
Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for drainage ditch elimination, grading of the
road surfaces to achieve the design specifications, road berm removal, trash and debris
removal road ripping operations, soil distribution and roughening of the Mine 1 /2 Training
Center area. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT
MANAGER.
TASK 4: ROLLED DIP CONSTRUCTION
Rolled dips will be constructed along the graded roads. The purpose of the rolled dips is to
channel water from up slope areas off of the graded roads to the out slopes at frequent
intervals. Map 4, Hydrologic Structures, depicts the approximate location of the rolled dips to be
constructed at Roads B, C, D during execution of Task 4. The locations of the rolled dips shall
be marked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER using wood lathe or other suitable means
prior to construction.
The following table lists each road, and the approximate number of rolled dips to be constructed
on each. Road widths are depicted on Cross Sections B-1 through D-18. The Huntsman Ridge
Road is estimated to average twenty feet (20') in width.
Road Number of dips
B 8
C 42
D 31
Huntsman 20
Rolled dips will be built to the specifications contained in Figure 1, Rolled Dips. The dips will be
constructed at an approximately thirty degree (300) angle to the road length. Excavated dirt
shall be placed on the down slope side of the dip. The slopes of the dips shall not be steeper
than 3 H : 1 V. The depth of the ditch at the outlet as measured from the downslope side of the
road adjacent to the dip shall be two feet (2').
Energy dissipation structures will be built at approximately half of the constructed rolled dips.
PROJECT MANAGER will identify in the field which dips will receive the energy dissipation
structures. The purpose of these structures is to disperse the runoff which will pass through the
dips prior to the water flowing down the fill slopes below the rolled dips.
A log will be placed at the outlet of approximately fifty (50) of the rolled dips. Each log must
have a minimum diameter of eight inches (8"), and must be at least six feet (6') in length. The
log will be placed three feet (3') below the outlet of the specified dips, perpendicular to the fall of
the slope, so that the log is centered in relation to the axis of the dip (equal lengths of the log
must be placed on either side of the up-gradient and down-gradient sides of the axis of the dip).
Care must be exercised so that the log is placed as close to level as possible. Each log will be
dug into the fill slope so that at least four inches (4") of the log is buried, and four inches (4") of
the log is exposed. The trenches will be backfilled with the material excavated to create the
trench, and the backfill must be compacted by hand. Each log will be anchored in place by
13
