Rip rap materials may be imported from off-site areas at the CONTRACTORS discretion,
providing that such material is properly obtained and meets the specifications of this Task.
Rip rap materials for ponds 017 (Mine 5) and 023 (Mine 3 Bin Pad), may be obtained in the
vicinity of those ponds.
Rip rap will be applied to the excavated spillways in two (2) layers. An initial coarse of rip rap
will be evenly applied to the base and sides of the excavation. The rip rap shall extend up the
sides a minimum of two feet (2') above the base of the excavation. This first coarse of material
will be evenly and thoroughly worked into the substrate by either pushing it into the ground with
a trackhoe bucket until refusal, or by tracking over the material with a D4 or equivalent dozer
(approximately 20,000 pounds operating weight).
Following compaction of the first coarse, an upper, or second, coarse of rip rap material will be
placed over the top of the first coarse. Rip rap will be evenly applied to the base and sides of
the excavation. The second coarse of rip rap shall extend up the sides a minimum of two feet
(2') above the base of the excavation.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump
sum bid under Item 4 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs necessary
and incidental to obtaining and placing rip rap as described in this Task. The lump sum price
shall include all equipment, machinery and labor necessary to complete the task as described in
this specification. Payment will be made only for the price bid in Item 4 of the Bid Schedule, and
as work is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 5 ACCESS ROAD RECLAMATION
Five (5) ponds have access roads which will be reclaimed after work at the pond outlets is
completed. Access road reclamation will be accomplished in the following manner:
- Drainage ditch, if any (usually located near the inside margin of the road) will be filled
with dirt, so that the fill slopes toward the road surface at a minimum of five percent
(5%). Filling may be accomplished by grading the road surface into the ditch to
achieve the specified slope;
- Topsoil, or material generated from excavation of the dewatering devices, as noted on
the Table below, will be placed on the road surfaces to a depth of six inches (6");
- Road surfaces will be ripped perpendicular to the road centerline to a minimum depth
of eighteen inches (18") on twenty inch (20") centers;
- The road remnants will be severely scarified using a trackhoe or similar equipment, as
specified below:
- Apply two (2) tons per acre weed free mulch (see Task 3, Earth Work),
simultaneously with slopg scarification;
Fes' ` 12
