Two buried outlet pipes are in place at pond 023 (Mine 3 Bin Pad). These pipes are eighteen to
twenty four inches (18"—24") in diameter, and have a maximum burial depth of four feet (4') at
their outlet. The length of each pipe is estimated to be no more than sixty feet (60').
A twenty four inch (24") inlet pipe is located immediately above the upper 010 (Warehouse)
pond. This pipe is buried beneath the existing road at a maximum depth of two feet (2'). It is
estimated to be forty five feet (45') in length. j
The three pipe segments will be excavated and removed from the site for disposal. Once the !
pipes are removed from the ground, the excavations will be backfilled to ground level with the
excavated dirt. The backfill will be compacted every foot using a trackhoe bucket or similar
equipment until refusal. The backfilled trenches will be scarified by ripping the ground surface
to a depth of eighteen inches on twenty inch centers. The scarified surface will be revegetated
in accordance with these specifications (Task 6, Revegetation).
Drainage dips will be constructed immediately adjacent to the backfilled trenches. The exact
location of these features will be staked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER. These dips
will be trapezoidal in shape, with a minimum width of thirty six inches (36"), and a minimum
depth of fourteen inches (14"). Side slopes will be no steeper than 3 H : 1 V. They will be the
same length as the trenches excavated to accommodate the buried pipe removal.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump
sum bid under Item 3 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs necessary
and incidental to excavating the pond embankments to the design slope, removal and disposal
of excavated materials, surface scarification, removal of specified buried inlet or outlet pipes,
filling of the inlet and outlet pipe excavations and creation of dips adjacent to the inlet and outlet
pipe excavations. The lump sum price shall include all equipment, machinery and labor
necessary to complete the task as described in this specification. Payment will be made only
for the price bid in Item 3 of the Bid Schedule, and as work is completed and approved by
PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 4 RIP RAP PLACEMENT
In order to protect the excavated spillways from erosion, durable rock rip rap will be placed
within each one following completion of Tasks 2 and 3.
Durable rock rip rap is defined as angular to semi-rounded rock which gives off a ringing sound
when struck with a hammer. Shale is not an acceptable rip rap material. Individual rocks shall
be between two and eight inches (2"—8") in length as measured across the shortest axis of any
individual rock.
Rip rap may be obtained locally, from within the Project Area. A large volume of suitable
material may be found adjacent to the south bank of Dutch Creek above the Road C crossing,
see Map 3, Pond Reclamation Project Area. Rip rap materials may not be excavated from
within the banks of any stream without prior approval of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
11
