TASK 3 EARTH WORK ` n
General Side Slope Excavation
Upon completion of Task 3, Earth Work, the side slopes of each excavation shall be cut to 2.5 H
: 1 V, as measured from the toe of each side of the excavation. In some instances (specifically, M
ponds 018, 022, 001, 008, 021), the excavated earthen materials will be used to complete pond
access road reclamation (see Task 5, Access Road Reclamation).Where the excavated C"  }
material is not specified for use in access road reclamation, it will be loaded into small end-
dump trucks. The material will be trucked and dumped in area specified by the PROJECT
MANAGER. This material will be utilized in the vicinity of the pond from which it was excavated,
but never further than one half mile (2,640') from the pond from which it was excavated. In most
instances, the material will be spread around the margins of the pond, above the high water ►^P' !
elevation.
The material will be spread at each designated disposal location in single lifts no greater than
six inches (6"), unless otherwise specified by the PROJECT MANAGER. The CONTRACTOR
shall provide appropriate equipment to spread the material to the specified depth.
An approximately two hundred cubic yard (200 yd3) topsoil stockpile is located at pond 018.
This material wills be hauled west approximately one thousand two hundred feet (1,200') to the
Mine 2 bin pad. The material will be evenly distributed throughout this approximately three
quarter (3/4) of an acre area. Following topsoil application, the area will be severely
roughened, as described below.
The excavated embankment cut surface shall be severely roughened following completion of the
earth work to the specifications using a trackhoe or similar piece of equent in the following
manner:
- Upon completion of excavation, two (2) tons of certified weed free mulch shall be
applied to the cut surface. Mulch shall be provided by The CONTRACTOR, and shall
conform to Section 20.2 of the Revegetation Specifications, attached. All mulch shall
be certified as noxious weed free or noxious weed seed free by any authorized State or
County Officer. Documentation of certification shall be provided to the PROJECT
MANAGER prior to application of mulch. The mulch shall be evenly distributed over the
cut surface. Surface roughening will occur simultaneously with distribution of the weed
free mulch in order to prevent loss of the mulch due to wind.
Scarify the surface by using a trackhoe bucket or similar piece of equipment to
create numerous gouges in the cut slope. Gouge or pull the cut slope surface and
J 41 mulch toward the machine in a manner such that no less than twelve inches (12") of
vertical relief is created. These gouges shall be sufficiently close so that no more
than eighteen inches (18") exists between the crest of one gouge and the crest of an
adjacent gouge, in any direction.
Additional Pipe Removal and Earth Work
Two pond systems have buried inlet or outlet pipes which must be excavated and removed from
the site.
10
