completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be
made only for the unit prices shown under Item 3 of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 4 ADJACENT AREA TOPSOIL APPLICATION
Topsoil shall be placed adjacent to the sides of the new Ditch 8 for its length. Prior to
placement of the topsoil, the exposed surface shall be ripped to a depth of four to six
inches (4"—6"). Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the fall of the slope, and may be
accomplished during initial channel excavation. Following ripping, eight inches (8") of
topsoil shall be placed from the crest of the ditch to the toe of the hillside located
immediately east of the work area.
The topsoil shall be severely roughened using a trackhoe or similar piece of equipment in
the following manner:
- Upon completion of the topsoil application, two (2) tons of certified weed free mulch
shall be applied to the soil surface. Mulch shall be provided by the CONTRACTOR,
and shall conform to Section 20.2 of the Revegetation Specifications, attached. All
mulch shall be certified as noxious weed free or noxious weed seed free by any
authorized State or County Officer. Documentation of certification shall be provided to
the PROJECT MANAGER prior to application of mulch. The mulch shall be evenly
distributed over the soil surface. Surface roughening will occur simultaneously with
distribution of the weed free mulch in order to prevent loss of the mulch due to wind.
- Scarify the surface by using a trackhoe bucket or similar piece of equipment
to gouge or pull the topsoil and mulch toward the machine in a manner such
that no less than twelve inches (12") of vertical relief is created. These
gouges shall be sufficiently close so that no more than eighteen inches (18")
exists between the crest of one gouge and the crest of an adjacent gouge, in
any direction.
Roughening in this manner will occur at all areas disturbed during reclamation
construction, unless otherwise specified for a particular feature or area.
Upon completion of surface roughening, seed (Table 1, Coal Basin Mine Site Seed
Mixture), to be provided by PROJECT MANAGER, will be distributed on all areas which
were topsoiled and roughened. Seed must be broadcast using a hand held broadcast
seed applicator.
Topsoil Stockpile Reclamation
Topsoil from the Sutey Topsoil Stockpile shall be excavated in a manner so that the
stockpile is left in a stable condition. All cut slopes shall be excavated so that they do not
exceed 3H : 1V when excavation is completed. Pre-'existing drainage berms and ditches
shall be returned to their original condition following topsoil excavation. All cut slopes and
areas compacted by trucks or machinery shall be ripped perpendicular to the fall of the
slope after topsoil excavation is completed. Roughening, as specified above, shall be
accomplished following completion of excavation activities.
13
