A small channel located uphill and north of the old Ditch 8 provides contributory flow to the
:.}stem. T,iis channe, .,gust ce .cngunened cy apprcx, mriately tnirty feet (30) so that it
intersects the top of the newly constructed Ditch 8. This new channel segment will be
constructed to the following specifications:
Upon completion, this ditch will be trapezoidal in shape, the base being no less than five
feet (5) in width and the side slopes being no steeper than 2 H : 1 V. The width of the
ditch as measured from crest to crest will be no less than thirteen feet (13'). The total
depth of the ditch as measured from the base to the crest will be no less than two feet
(2.0'). Large rock encountered in the channel during excavation shall be removed from
the channel, and stockpiled near the bottom of Ditch 8 in a location to be specified by the
PROJECT MANAGER.
Excavation of the ditch shall occur so that the excavated depth is two and four tenths feet
(2.4') in depth. The base of the ditch upon completion of excavation shall be not be less
than six feet (6). The base of the channel must be excavated so that the excavated
dimension of two and four tenths feet (ie: 2.4') is uniform across the base of the channel
as measured perpendicular to the direction of flow. High or low spots are not acceptable,
and will require additional grading until the specified cross section is achieved. Excavated
material may be placed in the old Ditch 8.
Upon completion of the excavation, the base of the channel shall be ripped to a depth of
three to four inches (3" to 4"). Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the direction of flow.
Upon acceptance of the ripping, topsoil shall be applied to the excavated ditch. Topsoil
shall be applied to the base, and sides of the excavation to uniform depth of four inches
(4"). Following placement, the soil shall be hand raked to achieve a soil surface which is
free of humps, dips, rocks or clods. The soil surface must be uniform, having no
topographic variations, and it must be level from side to side as measured perpendicular
to the direction of flow.
Upon completion and acceptance of topsoil application, diammonium phosphate fertilizer
(18-46-0) shall be applied at a rate of 300 pounds per acre. The fertilizer shall be
supplied by CONTRACTOR. Seed provided by PROJECT MANAGER will be
broadcast applied at the rate of ten pounds (10#) per acre.
After seeding and fertilization is complete, a liner shall be installed. The liner shall
consist of 100% coconut fiber encased top and bottom in heavyweight ultra violet
stabilized netting. Components shall be sewn on 1.5 inch centers. North American
Green 125 or approved equivalent is acceptable. The liner shall be installed per
manufacturer's specifications.
Measurement and Payment
Feeder channels will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Measurement for payment
will consist of physically measuring the length of each feeder channel installed.
Payment for this task will be paid for at prices established in Item 3 of the Bid Schedule
per linear foot installed. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all
labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the
construction of the feeder channels to the specifications, including furnishing and placing
liners, placement of topsoil, distribution of seed and provision and installation of fertilizer
as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be as this task is
12
