Tunnel Area
To backfill the tunnel area highwall, 96,800 yd3 of material would have to be
moved. This figure was determined, assuming a 60-foot highwall and a 2 acre area
to be backfilled. The assumption is made that a D9U will be used to push the
material to the highwall with an average push distance of 200 f6et. The final
slope would be at 30%.
with a push distance of 200 feet, a D9U has an unadjusted production rate of
775 LCY/hr. The following adjustment factors apply to this operation:
Condi ti on Factor
Average Operator 0.75
Rock Material 0.70
50 Minute working hour 0.84
Grade Factor (l5%-(0+30%t2)) 0.76
Altitude derati on 0.94
Overall Factor 0.32
Therefore, a D9U can move 248 LCY/hr. At this rate, it would take 390 hours to
complete this operation at the following cost:
1 - D9U dozer: 390 hours 6 $127.001hr. _ $49,530.00
1 - Operator: * 390 hours 0 $ 15.001hr. _ $ 5,850.00
TOTAL COST: $55,380.00
Building Removal Costs
The applicant did not include building removal costs for those structures at Mines
No. 4 and No. 5 which would be left as part of,a ski area post-mining land use.
However, the Division must bond for removal of these buildings since Mid-Continent
cannot presently show that it can attain the post-mining land use of a ski area.
The Division based the building removal costs for Mines No. 4 and No. 5 on the
average cost per square foot of structure as calculated by the applicant. The
estimated building removal costs for Mine No. 4 are $84,200.00 and $40,575.00
for Mine No. 5.
All other building removal costs were accepted by the Division.
Haul Road Reclamation
The applicant did not include any costs for downgrading the twelve miles of haul
road from 22 feet in width to 31 feet.
-The Division's estimate is.basod .on using a Caterpillar 245 backhoe which has a
reach of 32 feet and a capacity of 2.5 cubic yards. Material from the fill slope
will be used to backfill the cut slope. From the attached cross-section, it was
determined that 206,507 yd3 would have to be moved to downgrade the 12 miles of
haul roads.
