up the slope will be constructed around the perimeter of the dump,
a little more than half way up the slope. A down drain will be
built to transport runoff from the top of the dump and from the
bench area to the base of the pile toward Dutch Creek. A soil
substitute, material excavated from a nearby roadway, will be used
to cover the dump as insufficient soil materials exist to topsoil
the entire pile. This area will also be mulched and seeded.
I hope to have this package to the Division of Purchasing by mid
August, with reclamation to begin in early fall. During the
remainder of the summer and fall I will be taking field
measurements and drafting additional Invitations to Bid for
reclamation to be undertaken next year.
Additional work which may be undertaken at the mine this year
includes maintenance activities. The cleaning of ditches, culverts
and ponds will be undertaken should it be necessary to do so in
order to prevent sediment from reaching receiving streams during
next spring's runoff.
I have been informed that the salvage contractor is now on-site and
working to remove a number of structures and miscellaneous
materials at the mine entry. I have requested that the contractor
provide a list of the areas to be cleaned this year and a schedule
for accomplishing these tasks. Our reclamation efforts will be
timed to coincide with the salvage operations to the extent
possible.
Please feel free to contact me at (303) 241-0336 if you need
additional information.
CC: Michael Long
C:\wp51\brd
