ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS
Minimize off site sedimentation
Minimize on-site erosion
Promote slope stability of cut and fill slopes
Promote revegetation of disturbed areas
Remove all metal, debris and asbestos from site
Return drainages to natural condition
Define and minimize impact of oily discharge to Coal Creek
ENVIRONMENTAL PRIORITIES
Priority 1 Hydrologic Control
Re-establish natural drainages-- ensure that roads, benches and
other mine site disturbances do not impede drainages. Ensure that
flow from various mine site facilities is directed to the
appropriate natural drainage. Redirect flows so that trans-basin
diversions are eliminated.
Control concentrated drainage from roadways and from mine benches-
grade mine site to promote sheet flow as much as possible. Utilize
cut out trenches (rolling dips) to disperse flow off of the
roadways where graded sheet flow is impractical or unobtainable.
Identify specific areas to allow runoff from various structures
(benches and other level facilities areas) to an identified
existing channel. Construct channels to accommodate flows.
Minimize sediment contribution prior to vegetation establishment--
Construct sediment traps at the base of mine bench out slopes and
other facility slopes or on benches and slopes as stability
concerns allow. Construct so that traps are long and narrow
perpendicular to slope length so that as trap is filled with
sediment continued flow is discharged as sheet flow.
Stabilize Dutch Creek-- The Dutch Creek Flume and the concrete
