Mid-Continent Resources Mine #5
around the outermost (northerly) edge of the yard area (Ditch Segment 8), then
leading to the sediment pond (Ditch Segment C).
Drainage from the (lower) portal should be routed away from the fill to be placed
at the base of the hill. A well armored ditch will be constructed below the (lower)
draining portal to convey flow around the hill, then to intersect with Ditch A.
Sector 2-8
The existing stands of timber are an asset to this area, and will not be disturbed.
The fill slope along the outside edge of the portal bench, above the road, will be
pushed down, over the roadway, to fill in the ditch and partially cover the road.
This will somewhat moderate the slope and the angle of the slope. The roadway
will thus be narrowed, to serve as a terrace. The fill material below the road
should be left alone as it is of a more moderate grade, and has vegetated,
except to direct drainage from the hillside above.
Drainage from the eastern-most swale on the bench will be directed, via a swale
across the road, toward the natural ravine which leads to the lowermost yard
area, and then directed to the ditch leading to the sediment pond.
Drainage from the mid-portion of the bench will be routed, also via a second
swale in the roadway/terrace below, to an existing ditch (Ditch F) which extends
through a wooded area down the the ravine. The objective is to prevent water
flowing down toward the fill (Area 3A).
Sector 2-C
Material from the fill slope below the bench will be pushed down over the
roadway, below this area, as the terrain becomes less steep, the roadway will be
little altered, other than to be ripped and seeded.
Flows from the AML project on the hillside above will be routed as presently.
Area 3
Sector 3-A
The outwash material in the lower yard area, together with material from the AML
project, will be placed against the hillside and compacted. The western-most
side of the fill slope above will be avoided as a potential avalanche path. The fill
will extend outward toward the concrete bases of the (former) bin. The fill will
moderate the angle of the toe along the base of the hillside.
4
07/14/93
