Mid-Continent Resources Mine #5
Lack of material precludes backfill of the entire cut above the portal, moreover,
the fact that this is an avalanche zone must be considered. Backfilled material
placed against the cut will be subject to the extreme forces of avalanching. If
extensive backfilling is done here, the the material would be carried over the
slope and down to the upper reaches of Coal Creek, following the path of the
outwashed material presently in the lower yard area. In the interest of stability
and of the protection of Coal Creek, fill material placed over the portal will be
kept at a relatively low angle along the base of the cut.
Sector 1 B
Colluvial material has achieved a relatively moderate slope along the base of the
cut, and the bench itself will be left as a base for this material, except that the
bench will be narrowed at its outer perimeter as material is pushed down over
the road-way below, or used to bury the concrete foundation of the lamphouse.
This foundation will be ripped or torn before burial.
The low points on the hillside above suggest drainage/snow pass onto the bench
from these areas. Consequently, The east end of the bench will be graded to a
rolling dip/swale, see illustration, with gentle side slopes angled to a point below
the low point of the hillside above. A second, smaller dip may be added below a
second low point in the hillside above along the outside of the bench at a point
just east of the lamphouse foundation.
Sector 1 C
The far east end of the bench will be built up/bermed to prevent flows from the
slide zone%verland flow area (further east) coming down to the bench, and
angled gently toward the eastern-most swale, so that drainage from this end of
the bench flows to the low point of the swale.
Area 2
Sector 2-A
Fill material from the hillside below the portal will be pushed down, over the fill (of
material from the yard and AML project) which is to be placed at the base of the
hill. To the extent possible, the angle of the slope will be moderated with
terraces, each constructed as a dozer path when the material is pushed down
the hill.
The roadway/ditch (Ditch Segment A) which presently extends down from the
west toward the yard will serve as a ditch below the fill area, continuing on
3
07114193
