Mid-Continent Resources Mine #5
material from the western-most side of this area to the flat ground below. A draining
portal(the lower portal) is situated approximately two-thirds of the way up the slope.
Currently a pipe has been attached to the portal drain pipe and conveys water along a
ditch running east1west at approximately the same elevation.
Middle (Sector 2B) The road which accesses the portal bench runs through this
sector, as does the east/west ditch which presently conveys drainage from the lower
portal. There are two fill slopes, beneath the bench and beneath the road, and a ravine
which conveys water to the lower yard area. The fill is probly shallow, although
exact depth is unknown. This section is notable for stands of trees.
East End(Sector 20 Geo-Hydro notes snow debris from the avalanche zone above.
Drainage from the AML site passes through this area, adjacent the road.
Area 3
West End(Sector 3A). A flat yard adjoining the toe of the fill, A ditch/roadway leads
into the yard from an upslope area to the northwest.
Middle (Sector 3B)
A transition zone at the base of the hillside. Water draining from the ravine above flows
into a ditch leading to the sediment pond.
East End(Sector 3C)
The sediment pond is here, and a topsoil pile adjacent the sediment pond. The main
roadway connects with an east4vest road segment which leads toward the #5 mine
ventilation portals. This road segment affords easy access to the area as a proposed
topsoil "borrow"area. Beyond the sediment pond is a turn-of-the-century spoil pile, a
proposed AML project.
Gradin_g/Draina_ge Plan
The objective will be to moderate slopes, where possible, and to establish a drainage
pattern which fits the terrain and protects areas of fill. Zones of avalanching at the east
and west sides are important considerations.
Area 1
Sect
The portal has been sealed. Under this plan, it will be covered with material
excavated from the uppermost edge of the bench. As most of this end of the
bench consists of rock, the horizontal bench area will retreat to the edge of the
rock excavation area.
2
07/14/93
