Using software based on
estimating procedures of the Cat Handbook , an estimate of the job
is made. Important inputs for the job are listed below:
- assume a soil coverage depth of 20 inches (will meet permit
requirements) over an area of 13. 1 acres. This results in a volume
of over 35 ,000 cubic yards .
- average haul distance is approximately 560 feet at an average
loaded grade of 9 . 5%.
- use only one scraper operating one shift per day .
- since a scraper initially removed the topsoil from the area and
built the two stockpiles , very little dozer help should be needed .
The enclosed sheets show that the cost of the actual work is
$18 , 376 . Adding 10% contractor profit results in a cost of $20 , 213.
