equipped with a 2-inch "u-tube" drain to insure that
water does not become impounded behind the seal.
The old fan portal at the Coal Basin No. 5 Mine (#il)
will be sealed utilizing cinder blocks in accordance with
section i3 of Mid-Continent last-approved mine
ventilation and methane and dust control plan, dated
October 19, 1990. This seal will be equipped with a 4-
inch "u-tube" drain to insure that water does not become
impounded behind the seal.
The old 2nd South drainage tunnel, Dutch Creek No. 1 Mine
(#22) , will be sealed utilizing cinder blocks in
accordance with Section 13 of Mid-Continent's last-
approved October 19, 1990 ventilation plan. This seal
will be equipped with a 2-inch "u-tube" drain to insure
that water does not become impounded behind the seal.
The two Coal Basin Adit portals will be sealed with
cinder blocks in accordance with section 13 of Mid-
Continent's last-approved ventilation and methane and
dust control plan, dated October 19, 1990. A permanent
12-inch active water drain pipe and "u-tube" will be
installed in the cinder block seal constructed in
accordance with section of Mid-Continent's last approved
ventilation and methane and dusts control plan, dated
October 19, 1992. A 4-inch "u-tube" drain will be
installed in the roadway seal to insure that water does
not become impounded behind the seal. One-inch air
sampling tubes will be installed in both seals.
Water impoundment will not occur behind any of the
remaining seals because the seals are at higher
elevations than the aforementioned seals incorporating
drainage "u-tube" piping.
6.0 The location of the portals remaining to be sealed are
shown on the enclosed mine maps for the Dutch Creek Mine,
MSHA ID No. 05-003-01, L. S. Wood (No. 3, MSHA ID No. 05-
003000) , Bear Creek (No. 4, MSHA ID No. 05-003510) , and
the Coal Basin (No. 5, MSHA ID No. 05-02342) .
7. 0 The sequential order of sealing the mines are in the
numerical order 1, 2, 3, . . . . , 39, 40 as stated on the
enclosed mine maps for the Dutch Creek Mine, MSHA ID No.
05-00301, L.S. Wood (No. 3, MSHA ID No. 05-003000) , Bear
Creek (No. 4, MSHA ID No. 05-003510) , and the Coal Basin
(No. 5, MSHA ID No. 05-02342) . This sequence provides
for sealing the last upper and lower portals of each mine
simultaneously in order to provide a natural ventilation
circuit until the last seal is in place. Seals 6 and 7,
13 and 14, and 40 and 41 will be built simultaneously.
Mid-Continent, Mine
Sealing Plan - 2 -
