1997
The reclamation bids currently contemplated for 1997 construction
include the following, depending on the availability of funds:
Roads B, C, D and associated light duty roads: About 4 miles of
roads at the south and central portions of Coal Basin will be
reclaimed.
Facilities Area: Structural demolition and highwall reduction and
revegetation are major components of the bid.
Steep Slope Revegetation: The steeper slopes below the mine
benches and along the haul roads will be revegetated using the
information gathered in 1996 from the test plots at Mine 4. We
have also applied to Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado for a 1997
tree planting project at the mine bench areas.
Several other projects are under discussion. It is contemplated
that remaining major reclamation tasks will be accomplished in
1997. Following this will be periodic maintenance as needed, and
finally sediment pond decommissioning. Completion of all projects
is dependent upon the availability of funds distributed from the
bankruptcy proceedings.
I would like to thank those of you who have provided help,
assistance, suggestions and support. Particularly, Dave Bucknam,
Jim McArdle, Paul Krabacher, Maggie Van Cleef, Loretta Pineda,
Harry Ranney, Dave Berry, Dan Mathews and Susan Burgmaier have been
very helpful on various projects over the past eighteen months. We
could not have accomplished all that we have without your help. I
look forward to working with some of you on future Coal Basin
projects.
C:\wp51\midc\sitecond\staff
