Area Seep Inventory
Page 4
o Sample data exists from CDH and SGC data for the North Fork of
Cement Creek above the confluence with Cement Creek. This
site is CC6 in the CDH data and GK-1 in the SGC data.
o A sample site is taken monthly of Cement Creek above the
American Tunnel. This site is a proposed tracer monitoring
site and is labeled CC1 or CC1A (when CC1 is inaccessible) and
is equivalent to CDH site CC18.
From the headwaters of the South Fork of Cement Creek to the
American Tunnel :
o Sampled Silver Ledge Mine (SL) . A water sample was taken from
portal. This site is equivalent to CC14 in the CDH-Upper
Animas Study.
o Seep 14 (S14) is a seep along the road cut to the Silver Ledge
Mine. A sample was taken.
o Seep 15 (S15) is a seep along the road cut to the Silver Ledge
Mine. A sample was taken.
o MHS 1 and MHS 2 are distinct flows from the swampy area above
the road to the Bla ckhawk Mine. These flows go into the
Middle Fork of Cement Creek. A composite sample was taken
from these flows.
o Sampled Lead Carbonate Mine (LC) . There was no flow from
portal due to blockage, but water appears approximately 180
feet south of dump. A water sample was taken from this flow.
Drainage from surrounding hillsides makes the entire bottom of
Minnehaha Basin a large swamp.
o LCS1 and LCS2 are distinct flows from the swampy area below
and east of the Lead Carbonate Mine. These flows go into
Minnehaha Creek. Samples were taken.
o Sampled Black Hawk Mine (BH) . A water sample was taken from
portal. This site is equivalent to CC1B in the CDH-Upper
Animas Study.
o Seep from talus slope and/or caved adit enters creek and
causes red staining. Area is marked P.S. on air photo. A
sample was not taken because flow could not be separated from
surface drainage flow.
( o Sampled South Fork of Cement Creek above confluence with
Cement Creek. This is a proposed tracer monitoring site and
is equivalent to CDH site CC17 and is labeled CCSF.
