Area Seep Inventory
Page 5
Eureka Gulch:
o Seep 11 (Sll) is drainage from a small pond at the 12,2001
elevation line. A water sample was taken.
o Seep 12 (S12) is a stream that appears from behind a rock
knob. A water sample was taken from point where water
surfaces.
o No water samples were taken from McCarty Basin.
o A sample was taken of Eureka Creek just above the confluence
with the South Fork of the Animas River. This site is
equivalent to A37 in the CDH-Upper Animas Study and is labeled
ECM.
o No water samples taken from the south fork #1 draining alit.
Water flows across the dump and disappears approximately 160
feet down the hillside.
o A water sample was taken of the South Fork of the Animas River
just above the confluence with Eureka Creek. This site is
equivalent to A36 in the CDH-Upper Animas Study and is labeled
SFM.
American Tunnel to the confluence of Cement Creek and the South
Fork of Cement Creek:
This area is relatively small and is between the practical lower
elevation limit of the American Tunnel portal and the defined
drainage boundaries of Cement Creek and the South Fork of Cement
Creek.
o AT-S1 is a seep that starts east of the waste dump at the
American Tunnel and flows into the South Fork of Cement Creek.
This site has been sampled, at a minimum, annually for
reporting with the Mined Land annual report.
o AT-S2 is a seep from the base of the waste dump. It flows
into the South Fork of Cement Creek. This site has been
sampled, at a minimum, annually for reporting with the Mined
Land annual report.
o AT-PI is a seep in the bank of Cement Creek, west of Settling
Pond #1 and south of the culvert in the road. The bank is wet
for approximately 50 feet and a sample was taken from this
flow.
